The 73rd Sydney Film Festival will be held in Sydney from June 3–14, 2026. The program features 248 films from 81 countries. Festival screenings will take place at the State Theatre, Sydney Opera House, and other cinemas across the city.
The program features a number of Australian feature films and documentaries. The Australian film "Together," directed by Michael Shanks, will open the festival. Other films from the festival's hosts include "Silenced" (directed by Selina Miles), "In The Valley" (directed by Ian Darling), "Leviticus" (directed by Adrian Chiarelli), and the American film "The Death of Robin Hood" (starring Hugh Jackman).
World premieres include Andrey Zvyagintsev's "Minotaur," a Russian-language film with English subtitles. The story centers on a successful Russian businessman whose carefully constructed life is abruptly disrupted when professional crises and global instability collide with the discovery of his wife's infidelity. This and 18 other films will arrive in Sydney immediately after the Cannes Film Festival.
Andrey Zvyagintsev is a Russian film director who achieved international acclaim with his debut film, The Return, which won the Golden Lion at Venice. His later films, Leviathan (2014) and Loveless (2017), were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Leviathan won the 2014 APSA International Film Festival on Australia's Gold Coast, while Elena and Loveless were previously screened at the Russian Resurrection Film Festival. Zvyagintsev currently lives in France, and the film production - France, Germany, and Latvia.
Minotaur will be shown at the State Theatre on June 12 at 8 PM, June 13 at 11:15 AM, and June 14 at the Ritz Cinema in Randwick at 5:45 PM.
