My greatmother's sister was a teacher of VKhUTEIN in Moscow. Painters Konchalovsky, Lentulov + El Lissitsky were professors there. She was acquainted with them as well as wiyh Lunacharsky, Esenin, Kachalov etc etc. Russian avangard was born before 1917 actually, but it was not a "bourjois" art and flourished under the new power...
