Русский Art-Weekend

22-24 февраля Russian Art Weekend 2019
Feb 22 at 7 PM – Feb 24 at 7 PM

Little Russian Club
15 Trafalgar Street Woolloongabba

Late last year a lovely lady, Tanya Kazzi, approached the Russian Club of Brisbane with an offer to organise an art show for Russian-Australian artists at the Russian Club. The Russian Club has worked with Tanya to collect a wonderful selection of art from around Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Some of the art is award winning. Many items are for sale too.

The idea is to support the creativity of the Russian-Australian community, and highlight the talents of our community. We have artists both young and old exhibiting. As part of the programme, we are offering a workshop on a traditional Russian artform (Gzhel) and traditional Australian artform (Indigenous painting - Tanya Kazzi has permission from Indigenous elders to talk about this style of painting). We also have a free talk with Svetlana Trefilova to open the event - it is about Malevich's "Black Square", and the different ways Russians and Australians have received and understood this work. All are welcome and entrance is free. The Russian Club of Brisbane (also known as the Little Russian Club) is the first and oldest Russian Club in Australia, and it is our mission to share Russian culture with the wider Australian community, so many of our events are presented in English as well as Russian - so you can bring your non-Russian friends and show them why you are proud of your culture.

Tanya Kazzi has done a wonderful job as the Art Weekend curator. She herself is a talented artist and the Russian Club thanks her for her work in bringing together the creative Russian-Australian community.
